Madrigal Players is presenting their fourth production, Brunswick's Bollywood Dinner Theatre. This event will be a fundraiser for the St. Thomas University Tommies women’s soccer program. Our show will be presented on Sunday, September 16th at the Fredericton Inn. We are very pleased to have Fredericton Inn as our supporters.
Brunswick’s Bollywood involves a cast of twenty children and adults. The cast is supported by a music ensemble of six. It’s a comical story of a new private school in Northern New Brunswick trying to attract international students. The head mistress is young and inexperienced and it seems as though Brunswick Academy is doomed for failure if enrolment continues to decline. The school had not been able to gain success in academics or athletics. It does have a strong music and dance program but the instructors’ modern methods are criticised by the nuns who live next door to the school. The nuns, all retired school teachers are quick to offer advice to the school’s headmistress and athletic director.
Sister Chastity offers a program that promotes discipline to both staff and students. The athletic director hopes that discipline regime will allow the school to be able win some events in the upcoming private school Olympics. There are great hopes for the cricket team lead by Prof. G who is a new grad of Oxford. Prof. G soon reveals that he isn’t just an All-star cricket player but a wonderful marketer. His father’s connections as a Bollywood director give Prof G an exciting vision for Brunswick Academy’s recruitment drive.
We are pleased to have many of our members returning as cast or assisting as a support team for the production. We are also pleased to have several new members. Madrigal Players will be sharing the stage with the UNB Glee group who will be appearing as the academy’s choir as well as River Rhythm. The music of the show is as eclectic as the characters. The nuns sing “Dona Nobis Pacem”. Jane Blakely as Sister Chastity belts a well know musical number “Sister’s”. The hockey coach leads the cast in a medley of Acadian folks song while the teaching staff contributes well know pop songs such as “Grenade”, “Keep Holding On” and “Lean on Me”. The students serenade Prof G and their dance instructor with well-known love songs to encourage their blossoming romance. The audience will be encouraged to sing along and join in competitions such as spelling bee.
Choreography is by Katie Flowers and Raman Singh. Denise Ingraham is business manager and direction is by Judy Lavigne and Sarah Farquhar. Ricky Chilvers is our drama coach. Our entire cast is being asked to assist with production staff duties which provides for a wonderful cohesive team approach and new learning.
We are hoping to market the dinner theatre to groups who needs a novel fundraising project. Brunswick's Bollywood is an upbeat look at changes in New Brunwick’s identity and in our ideas of education. The show is fun for the entire family.
Tickets are available by calling Madrigal Music Studio 506-206-1375 at the Fredericton Inn and St. Thomas University Athletics Department. Anyone hoping for more information can email [email protected].
